The 2018 organisational restructure meant a change of name, location and expansion for the careers team.
SAE has budgeted for additional human resources to support it's employability strategies. This includes adding additional employability officers at each SAE campus to aid in graduate progression.
The expansion of human resources to support employability progressed significantly in 2017. Prior to this year, UQ had a central careers staff of 5 FTE, and approximately 10 other staff across the university (not counting WIL administrators) engaged in the promotion and teaching of employability. With the provision of Student Strategy Funding in early 2017 the University has been able to appoint 5 additional Career Development advisers and, 2 additional WIL advisers centrally.
Faculties will continue to receive Employability funding through the Student Strategy of $300k per year until 2021, and this funding is likely to result in additional appointments not already realised. Anticipated increase is 16 additional staff across the institution in 2019 including those mentioned above. Breakdown is as follows:
Central UQ Careers Team from 5 FTE in 2018 to 11 FTE in 2019 (additional 5 staff deployed into Faculties)
Central WIL Advisers from 1 FTE in 2018 to 3 FTE in 2019
Faculty of Business Economics and Law Employability Team no anticipated change from 10 FTE in 2018
Faculty Engineering, Architecture and IT Employability Team from 3 FTE in 2018 to 5 FTE in 2019
Faculty of Science from 0 FTE in 2018 to 2 FTE in 2019
Faculty of Health and Behavioural Studies from 0 FTE in 2018 to 1 FTE in 2019
Faculty of Medicine from 1.2 FTE in 2018 to 2.2 FTE in 2019

Yes. The institution is planning on expanding its current human resource relating to WIL which encompasses placement officers as part of the Education Portfolio's operation budget for 2019. It is anticipated that four placement officers will be placed in the following faculties: Faculty of Arts, Business, Law, and Education (2 staff), Faculty of Science (1 placement officer), Faculty of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (1 placement officer).
UWA will also have four placement officers from CCIWA that will be sitting centrally to support the placement of students.
As the external consultant make recommendations on a proposed business model, if additional human resources are required, this will be taken into consideration.

The Employability strategy identifies three strategic pillars/objectives/priorities which identify functions that will be invested in, in 2019. Namely, this will be in the creation of a student dashboard that recognises and validates existing forms of graduate capital. To do this, there will be an investment of funding and roles within the University. Positions and headcount are yet to be determined.
Preparation for decanal planning for the University has identified growth in particular Schools that will require direct service provision from the Placements Hub. New disciplines such as oral health, radiography and ophthalmology will require support for health compliance, agreement development and placement system management and configuration, and administrative resourcing will be essential to support this growth.
Not that I am aware of.
No we are not adequately staffed
The University does not currently have plans to expand current human resources in areas of relating to employability specifically. Across the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) portfolio, effort will focus on alignment of the existing investment in activities supporting employability as well as between portfolios and Faculties.
The current resourcing pool is subject to the changes occurring in the new College structure at this time. Further funding to the central team is outcome and strategy dependent.
No
No intention to expand personnel relating to employability at this stage given the tight fiscal environment for universities.
No, ICMS has only recently appointed a full-time Human Resource Manager. This position will have a staff training focus so there is a focus upon staff development and employability, but no plans at this time to expand into student employability matters.
Not planned for at this stage.
